“. . . I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people... I didn't take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view.... I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!”

1 Cor 9:19b-23
(The Message)

Rev. Michael Saunders, Senior Pastor

Born in Eastern Canada into a Christian home, Pastor Mike began a career in policing in 1981 and served in Vancouver, British Columbia, Fredericton, New Brunswick and Sussex, New Brunswick (all Canadian Cities) as a police officer until 1994. (14 years)

The Lord called Pastor Mike into ministry through his working as a lay youth pastor at his home church in Fredericton N.B. As a result of this call and deep desire to serve the Lord and reach the lost, Pastor Mike resigned from policing in 1994 and entered Bethany Bible College to pursue a degree in Pastoral Ministries. So began the long road to ordination. Pastor Mike continued his educational pursuits taking courses at Indiana Wesleyan University, Houghton College and Dalhousie University. Pastor Mike was ordained in the Wesleyan Church at the Penn-Jersey District Conference in July, 2000.

Pastor Mike’s first ministry position was as youth pastor at Warsaw Wesleyan Church, (Warsaw, Indiana). He served there for 3 years. Pastor Mike also pastored three other Wesleyan churches, (Plattsburg, NY, Stroudsburg, PA, and Willow Grove, PA) before resigning from ministry in 2006 to return home to be with his ailing father in Canada. There, Mike resumed his career as a police officer in 2006, working as a Major Crime Detective.  After two years in policing, Pastor Mike felt God calling him to return to ministry and went to pastor a church in Bridgeton, NJ.  In 2010, God led Pastor Mike back to CrossWay Community Church in Willow Grove, PA  where he is currently serving as Senior Pastor.

Pastor Mike and his wife Diane, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Their daughter Lindsay is on CrossWay's worship team.

You can reach Pastor Mike at (215) 675-1773 or via email at  pastormike@crosswaytoday.org

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Ephesians 2:8-10 (NASB)

Steve Rau, Assistant Pastor of Children and Youth

Steve was raised in a Christian home in Lancaster County, PA. He was given a passion for music and studied at Indiana University of PA where he met his wife, Amy, and graduated with a music education degree. During student teaching he felt the call of God strongly for full time ministry. After one year of public school teaching, he joined the youth staff at Family Life Ministries in Upstate NY as an at-home missionary where he served for 9 years planning big events for area church youth groups to come together and hear the story of the Gospel.

He started the process towards ordination in the Wesleyan church in 2008. In 2009 God made it clear to move to back to PA where Steve became the program director for Pinebrook Bible Conference in Stroudsburg, PA. During this time the Raus attended Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church and led children’s ministry during summer camps at Pinebrook.

In late 2011 Steve’s position was dissolved at the camp due to financial reasons and he joined Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church’s staff as the youth director. He led the youth, helped lead the worship ministry, and headed up the technical arts.

Once again, the Spirit of God was making it clear that He had something else in mind for the Rau’s ministry and in January 2015 while praying for direction and healing from past struggles, they met Pastor Mike and Diane at a pastor’s conference. Pastor Mike said, “We are looking for an assistant pastor,” and Steve said, “We are looking to BE someone’s assistant pastor,” and that began the Rau’s journey to join the CrossWay family!

Steve sings tenor, plays drums, enjoys helping people with their finances, loves Philly sports and marching band, and enjoys playing golf and softball. He is slated to become ordained in September of 2016. He is Dad to pretty pre-teens, Hannah and Emily, and has learned of God’s faithfulness over the years. Where He guides, He provides.

Rev. David Smith, Assistant Pastor of Pastoral Care and Global Missions

Pastor David Smith was converted to Christianity as a university student in Munich, Germany after hearing a short gospel presentation from another student.  He was led into the ministry and while studying at Asbury College in Kentucky, he learned about missions. He was so influenced by what he heard that he asked God to let him take the gospel to a place that had never heard it before.  While awaiting God's answer, Pastor Dave pastored a circuit of four United Methodist churches in Ohio while his wife Linda taught third grade.  Eventually, God led Pastor Dave and Linda to become missionaries for WEC International in West Africa.  They went to the eastern half of Guinea-Bissau where they served in a primarily Muslim community from 1976-1980. Remarkably, Pastor Dave and Linda were able to plant four Christian churches in four years in this primarily Muslim area.

After returning to America to serve at the WEC International USA headquarters, Pastor Dave and Linda joined CrossWay Community Church (then First Wesleyan Church), serving in many support roles.  They have been members members since 1980. More than anything else, Pastor Dave and Linda desire to see people come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and fall deeply in love with God.  They see their role at CrossWay as encouragers. Many in our congregation would wholeheartedly agree. Pastor Dave serves as CrossWay's IMAP Global Parters Director and Director of Senior Care.

Pastor Dave and his wife Linda still live and work at the WEC International USA headquarters in Fort Washington, PA. Dave works as the Facilities Manager and Director of the New Building Program.  Linda serves as the English School Director and the kitchen manager. Married in 1972, they have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Their daughter Becky is also active in various support roles at CrossWay Community Church.

You can reach Pastor Dave at (215) 675-1773 or via email at  globalmissions@crosswaytoday.org.

Laurel Rowedder, Office Manager

Laurel grew up in Willow Grove and graduated from Upper Moreland High School in 1987.  After some years of being home with her children, Laurel realized something was missing in her life and began to search. Laurel enrolled her son T.J. in Seedlings Nursery School (held in the First Wesleyan Church). Feeling a connection and realizing her passion to teach children, Laurel acquired a part-time position as an Aide for Seedlings. Pastor Mike encouraged Laurel to attend services and shortly thereafter she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized and felt the need to continue to serve in ministry. Laurel moved up to obtain the position of Director for Seedlings and Secretary for the First Wesleyan Church and served for 5 years.  In 2006, during a Pastoral change in the church, Laurel acquired a full-time position with a Christian based company, Lakeside Educational Network, as an Administrative Assistant. After working 7 years full-time at Lakeside, Laurel began to feel the need to spend more time with her family and God was leading her back to her church to serve in ministry there.  In May, 2013, Laurel accepted the position of CrossWay Community Church Office Manager.

Laurel and her husband Dave live in Hatboro, PA, with their 5 children, ranging in ages from 23 to 9 years old and have 1 grandson. Their son, T.J. Moore, plays guitar and drums for the worship team. Laurel and Dave currently serve in the Hospitality Ministry and Dave helps out wherever the need may be in the church. Dave and Laurel feel a strong commitment to CrossWay Community Church and strive to serve their church family and the surrounding community.

You can reach Laurel in the office from 9am to 4pm at (215) 675-1773 or via email at  info@crosswaytoday.org.
